At Okta, we’re building a world where anyone can safely use any technology, and we’re specifically focused on protecting the future of work. We bring simple and secure access to people and organizations everywhere, promising to not only protect the identities of our workforce and users but to ask, “what more can we make possible?”
As a Senior UX Researcher at Okta India, you will join a globally distributed research and design team, shaping customer experiences across the Access Management ecosystem. Your mission is to secure workforce access right from physical device bootup delivering frictionless, phishing resistant, and passwordless authentication across macOS, Windows,Linux, iOS, and Android platforms.
In this role, you will lead end to end research initiatives, translating ambiguous product questions into actionable insights that directly influence long term strategy and near term product decisions across global Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) teams.
Finer Print
You will join an AI first team of researchers and designers supported by leadership who fosters high autonomy, deep ownership, and a strong culture of craft. As part of Okta’s centralized Design & Research organization in Bengaluru, you will act as a key research anchor, working closely with cross functional partners in both India and the US to define problems, explore solutions, and drive impact.
You will balance functional, foundational research with generative explorations that help frame new security and identity paradigms in an evolving, technical problem space.
What You Will Do
As the dedicated User Researcher for Access Management in India, you will own the UX research strategy along with an opportunity to act as a foundational builder for our regional research operations.
• Own Access Management Research in India: Scope, prioritize, and execute generative and evaluative research and aligning cross border roadmaps with high priority business goals across multiple OS platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android).
• Build an Exclusive User Panel: Go beyond standard recruiting by proactively building and managing a dedicated panel of user personas, ensuring a direct pipeline to our most critical users and cultivating deep customer empathy.
• Pioneer AI-Driven Efficiency: Champion the secure use of AI tools to automate operationalise recurring work such as transcript synthesis, feedback classification, and qualitative coding, freeing up time for deep strategic thinking.
• Make Research a "Team Sport": Empower cross functional partners in Product, Design and Engineering to run their own high quality evaluative studies through training frameworks, templates, workflows, etc while mentoring cross function partners to raise the overall research mindset.
• Exercise Methodological Rigor: Flexibly apply mixed methodologies including contextual inquiry, usability testing, surveys, and quantitative analysis suited to fast paced product timelines and complex security domains.
• Drive Global Alignment & Storytelling: Collaborate deeply with EPD teams across time zones, synthesizing complex data into compelling stories and actionable recommendations for executive stakeholders.
What We Are Looking For
• Technical Research Expertise: Demonstrated track record of conducting user research within complex, highly technical B2B, enterprise, security, or developer-facing domains.
• Strategic & Autonomous Thinker: Ability to translate business goals and technical ambiguity into structured research plans independently while managing competing priorities across multiple product streams.
• AI Tooling & Practice: Curiosity and active experience incorporating AI tools into your research workflow (e.g., automated transcript synthesis, qualitative coding, prompt engineering) to accelerate time-to-insight without compromising rigor.
• Global Collaboration: Proven success working effectively within globally distributed teams, displaying exceptional written and asynchronous communication skills across overlapping US/APAC working hours.
• Systems & Strategic Thinking: Ability to connect user insights directly to business metrics, product adoption, and technical feasibility.
• Growth Mindset & Empathy: Strong self-awareness, receptiveness to feedback, and passion for solving high-stakes identity and security problems.
Qualifications
• Experience: 4+ years of product development experience conducting UX research in enterprise/B2B product environments, OR a Master’s degree/PhD in HCI, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, or related field with 2+ years of experience.
• Portfolio: A digital portfolio or case study deck demonstrating end to end research ownership, complex technical problem spaces, generative and evaluative methodologies, and measurable business/product impact.
• Platform Knowledge: Experience researching desktop and mobile applications across macOS, Windows, iOS, or Android environments.
• Security Context: Background in identity, access management, cybersecurity, or enterprise IT admin tools is a strong plus.
