Software Engineer – Business Systems, Automation & AI
Salary / Rate: Negotiable | Contract Type: Negotiable | Remote & Flexible
ProcurePublic is a public-sector framework provider looking for a Software Engineer to help us modernise, streamline and further develop the technology that supports our business.
We were an early adopter of Zoho One and have built much of our operation around the Zoho ecosystem and Wordpress. The platform has evolved considerably since we first implemented it, and some of our systems and processes were originally designed to overcome limitations that simply no longer exist.
We now have an opportunity to rethink how we use the platform and Wordpress.
The Opportunity
We want someone who can understand how our business works and help us make better use of what Zoho can do today, alongside Wordpress to improve customer interaction.
Our preference is always to use native functionality wherever possible , rather than unnecessarily building around it. We believe this creates simpler systems, reduces maintenance and provides better long-term compatibility as the Zoho ecosystem continues to develop.
The role will involve reviewing what we already have, simplifying where appropriate and identifying opportunities to make our systems more intuitive, automated and effective.
You'll have considerable scope to influence how we develop.
What You'll Work On
Wordpress and Zoho, this environment includes:
Zoho One | CRM | Mail | Forms | SalesIQ | Books | Creator | Analytics | Writer | Sign | ZeptoMail | WorkDrive | Bookings | Meeting | Cliq
Integration and compatibility across these products is central to how we operate.
You'll work on projects including:
• Reviewing and modernising our existing Zoho architecture
• Replacing historic workarounds with simpler native functionality
• Improving workflows, automation and integrations
• Making our CRM more intuitive for staff
• Improving the design and user experience of our forms
• Creating better digital journeys for clients and suppliers
• Developing and improving integrations with GitHub, Microsoft Azure and WordPress
• Working with APIs and Zoho's development tools, including Deluge and Creator
• Improving reporting, analytics and the way information moves between applications
• Identifying opportunities to simplify processes rather than simply adding more technology
Taking AI Further
We've already integrated ChatGPT into parts of our environment, but we believe there is considerably more potential.
We want to explore how AI can become genuinely useful within our day-to-day systems – assisting staff with decision-making, interpreting information, improving workflows and providing better support to our clients and suppliers.
We're therefore interested in someone who is excited by the practical application of AI, rather than simply adding AI features for the sake of it.
• Understand a business problem before trying to engineer a solution
• Learn new platforms and technologies quickly
• Challenge existing processes constructively
• Find simple solutions to complicated problems
• Work independently and take ownership
• Communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues
• Balance innovation with reliability and long-term maintainability
Most importantly, we want someone who looks at an established system and asks:
“If we were building this today, would we still do it this way?”
Requirements
Experience Isn't Everything
You don't need to be a Zoho expert when you join us .
Experience with Zoho, Deluge, APIs, GitHub, Azure, WordPress, integrations or AI development would certainly be useful, but technical ability, curiosity and the capacity to learn are more important to us than years of experience.
We're looking for someone who can:
• Understand a business problem before trying to engineer a solution
• Learn new platforms and technologies quickly
• Challenge existing processes constructively
• Find simple solutions to complicated problems
• Work independently and take ownership
• Communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues
• Balance innovation with reliability and long-term maintainability
Benefits
What We're Offering

Salary / Rate: Negotiable Contract Type: Negotiable – permanent, fixed-term or contract arrangements considered Location: Remote Working arrangements: Flexible This could suit an experienced developer looking for ownership of an established business ecosystem, or an ambitious software engineer who wants the freedom to learn, experiment and make a visible difference.
